Few years after delivery, some QCW diodes from QLD have been launched to the lunar orbit (LRO NASA program). QLD is really proud of helping NASA team in this very important scientific program.
QLD has been working on very high reliable diodes for a wide. Working with NASA team for a company like QLD is very exiting.
In the mean time QLD have also delivered QCW diodes for European Space Agency. Some of them will be launched shortly (ALADIN program), some other in the coming years (ATLID program) as we are just assembling the first Laser right now (refer to ESA WEB site for more information). For this ATLID program QLD has developed a new generation of QCW diodes and has demonstrated more than 10 Gshots QCW diodes life time, even under vacuum and radiation. Those diodes have very high efficiency (>60%) at 808 nm and as of today, we have not been able to see any degradation, even under On-Off mode.
As the CEO of the company, I may not be alive before the diodes die...
QLD is also part of a French CNES scientific program hold by NASA and called CHEMCAM. QLD diodes have been selected and qualified and we hope to see them on Mars in the coming years as it will take some years for the satellite just to arrive close to this planet.
